Munetsi | ‘Everything is not done yet’

Marshall Munetsi is determined to help Wolves to finish the season in the strongest possible way after being part of a record-breaking side during his first term in Old Gold.

Wolves made it five Premier League wins on the bounce for the first time ever with victory at Old Trafford last weekend, but Vitor Pereira’s side return to Molineux to face Leicester City on Saturday, where they can extend that record-breaking run.

And Munetsi insists the players want to continue to be part of a historic run and will be doing everything they can to claim a sixth top flight win in succession – something the club has not achieved since 1970.

On the spirit in the Wolves camp

“Everyone is happy. As long as you keep on winning games, as long as you enjoy playing football, enjoy playing for the club, everybody’s really excited. We know that we have achieved our goal, but everything is not done yet.

“We still have five more games to go, but this is the mentality that everybody has right now, to finish on a high, to finish in an even better position, so this is the main focus at the moment.

“When I came the mentality was to win games, and normally the manager was never really speaking about staying up. He was talking about winning games and fixing the style of play that he wants. So it’s still the same mentality for us – winning games and playing beautiful football that the supporters will love and also making sure that we show our intentions even for the next season to come.”

On the team's connection with the fans

“It’s been special since I came. Also us as players with the manager and how the fans love him here, and the way that he also resonates with the fans. It’s truly special, even for us.

“As long as we have this strong force of every home game with the amazing atmosphere and getting the results, it gives us an added advantage.

“Even when you're playing on the pitch, we saw against Tottenham, how the fans were unbelievable and we managed to score a couple of goals straight after conceding, so I just hope we continue to keep going in this direction.”

On taking momentum into this weekend

“It’s important that we don't take them lightly, because it’s still a home game that we have to play, and it’s a team that also needs to prove themselves and they have a couple of the players who need to show for the next season, if they want to stay with the club or if they have to move somewhere else.

“It’s a game that we have to take seriously considering the position that we are in right now because if we manage to get a couple of victories before the end of the season we would be finishing in a better place.”

On creating history in a gold and black shirt

“It’s been amazing. It’s something that I’ve always dreamed and worked hard for, and obviously now, being in this situation, you take it even more seriously because you know that you are representing a good club with amazing supporters. I’m enjoying every moment, creating history like we are doing, and trying to do our best to improve every day.

“These are things that we dream about as kids. You want to create history, you want to break records, you want to achieve things that have not been achieved before, and especially with the manager, he has really given each and every player that drive.

“When he talks about the spirit, when he talks about the love, the unity that we have, these are the things that makes us champions on the pitch, because we play for each other, we play for the badge and we play for the supporters.”

On finishing the season strongly

“It's important because you don’t want to start the season in a bad way. We want to finish on a high and then come back again and start on a high, so I think this is very important.

“Even for us as individuals, we’ve also got to show that we want to be here next season, we want to be here to keep on fighting for the club and for the manager. It’s very important that we fight for him too, as he has been supporting us and encouraging us to do well.

“We also have to prove that we are a good team, because before I came to Wolves, I saw the quality that was here, and now we just have to show that going into next season, we have to start on a high and also try to achieve better things than what we have this season.”
