Wolves have finished in seventh position in the latest Premier League sustainability league table, climbing from 18th last season.
The 2022 Green League is a table measuring the environmental sustainability of all 20 top-flight sides. It is published on BBC Sport, with the ranking updated each year. Teams were asked to provide evidence of efforts in 12 categories, with a total of 28 points available.
The much-improved league position for Wolves comes following the launch of One Pack, One Planet, featuring four key commitments to environmental sustainability. As well as the commitment to net zero by 2040, the campaign focuses on addressing waste, protecting the natural environment and embedding sustainability across the club.
Wolves recently joined the UN’s Sports for Climate Action and Race to Zero campaigns, underlining the club’s commitment to global climate action. Earlier this month, Wolves also became the first club to voluntarily report Scope 3 carbon emissions, including fan travel, team travel and water consumption, through our Annual Report.
In addition to the newly established commitments to long-term environmental sustainability, Wolves earned points for being supplied by 100% renewable electricity and our ongoing energy and water management programme, which has delivered extensive LED lighting replacements, including the floodlights, post-match close down processes and wide deployment of half-hourly submetering.
The table includes a Sustainable Transport category, with travel being a key component of football’s environmental impact. Wolves provides a ‘Journey Planner’ in partnership with Moovit, allowing fans and staff to easily plan all parts of their journey using a mixture of public transport, shared mobility and active travel, and has recently introduced schemes to incentivise sustainable travel for staff.
The club also continue to work closely with catering partner Levy UK to further improve the range of sustainable, locally and seasonally-sourced food, including plant-based options.
As Wolves continue to deliver this ambitious new phase of sustainability journey, the club wants the views, feedback and suggestions of fans. That’s why supporters were reached asked to apply to be part of a new fan focus group on environmental sustainability, which is now in the process of establishing.
