Griffiths | On scoring more goals and winning against Leicester

Harvey Griffiths has been pleased with the progression he’s made in his aim to become more of a threat in front of goal.

The under-21s midfielder opened the scoring in Monday evening’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Aggborough and now has four for the campaign – a tally which sees him at the top of the old gold scoring charts.

On the performance

“I thought the boys worked really hard as a team. The boys that dropped down gave everything and ran their socks off.

“The gameplan worked and we got our result from it.”

On starting quickly in the rain

“It wasn’t nice to play in but it just shows that we fought through it and wanted to get the three points tonight.

“It was vital that we started quickly and I think it showed as we got a goal early on. We got our tackles in and retained the ball for most of it.

“They had a 15-minute spell, but throughout the game we felt like we were on top.”

On his goal opening the scoring

“One of my aims is to get on the edge of the box more and get more goals this season. I’ve started to do that more and my goal tally’s going up.”

On seeing the game out and keeping a clean sheet

“We had the ball for most of it, were on top and we could’ve scored more if we took our opportunities. They had a 15-minute spell like I said but, apart from that, it was comfortable.

“It was vital to get the clean sheet and it’s always nice for the defenders and ‘keeper to get a clean sheet as well.”

On currently being the top scorer

“I can’t say I expected it but I’m happy with how I’m doing at the minute. I want to keep striving, keep going and hopefully there’s big opportunities to come.”
