BSM Trophy preview | Port Vale vs Wolves U21s

Wolves under-21s begin their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign with a trip to face Port Vale on Tuesday evening.

The Old Gold are in Group B alongside Wrexham and Salford City, but travel to Vale Park first to kick-start their 2024/25 competition.

James Collins’ youngsters come into the game on the back of picking up their first point in Premier League 2 on Saturday, as Josh Esen’s goal helped Wolves to a 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Vale, managed by Darren Moore, are adapting to life back in League Two following their relegation last season and have picked up four points from their opening four games.

Doncaster Rovers took all three points from Vale Park on Saturday following a 3-2 victory, meaning Moore’s side are still awaiting their first home win.

They have, however, collected two victories on the road and they both came at Salford City. Vale were 2-0 winners on the opening day of the League Two season, before repeating that same scoreline in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy last month.

Wolves last travelled to Vale Park in this competition in October 2022 and, with both sides already through to the knockout stages, it was Vale who secured top spot in the group with a 2-0 success.

Last season, Wolves bowed out in the group stage after defeats at Lincoln City and Derby County, despite an impressive victory at Notts County.
