U21 report | Wolves 1-0 West Ham

Wolves 1 (Voice 90+4) West Ham 0

Caden Voice scored a dramatic stoppage time winner, netting with the last kick of the game to secure all three points for Wolves under-21s against West Ham United.

With the game looking set to be a goalless draw, substitute Voice, who only came on with five minutes to play, was on hand to fire home from close range after Alfie Pond had headed back across goal from a corner kick in the final seconds at Aggborough.

The result secured a third home league victory on the spin for James Collins’ youngsters against a Hammers side who had won five out of six in Premier League 2.

The home side went close early on when a well-worked corner kick was played short between Ethan Sutherland and Tom Edozie before the former picked out Matty Whittingham who had peeled into space in the box, before narrowly dragging his effort inches past the right-hand post.

There was little to separate the two sides in the opening 30 minutes, with limited goalmouth action. However, Lewys Benjamin was called into action when Oliver Scarles took aim from distance, but the Wolves stopper was behind it all the way to hold.

The Old Gold were thankful for Fil Mabete’s smart positioning on a couple of occasions in the opening period, as the defender was well-placed to block Sean Moore’s attempt after the hosts had lost possession on the edge of their own penalty area.

Half-time | Wolves 0-0 West Ham

Hammers substitute Favour Fawunmi was the architect of the best chance of the game shortly after the restart when he combined with Josh Ajala, before cleverly playing the striker in behind who was denied by Benjamin.

Leo Lopes then saw a header at the back post go comfortably into the gloves of the goalkeeper after Makenzie Bradbury had delivered an inviting ball into the area.

The game looked to be heading for a stalemate, although Collins’ side were urged on from the sidelines and won a corner kick as the clock ticked into the fourth of three added minutes.

And with seconds to spare, Sutherland’s deep delivery was met at the back post by skipper Pond who fought hard to head back across goal where substitute Voice was on hand to lash into the net from a yard or so out.

Full-time | Wolves 1-0 West Ham
