Wolves 1 (Edozie 59) Reading 0
Wolves under-21s earned three points in Premier League 2 against Reading at Compton on Friday afternoon.
Tom Edozie’s second half strike proved to be the difference in the narrow victory as the Old Gold moved up to 10th in the table.
James Collins’ side were challenged to be without the ball in the early stages and had to show resilience and patience when in possession.
17-year-old Luke Rawlings was first to break through the Reading defence, but his effort from close-range was blocked.
Midway through the first half, momentum had shifted in favour of the hosts – Wolves were continuous in their high press and were showing signs of hope when exploiting forward.
However, in a tense affair, neither side could find the finishing touch before the break.
Half-time | Wolves 0-0 Reading
Following the restart, Wolves’ patience was tested once again as they were without the ball.
Eventually, Collins’ side broke the deadlock on the hour mark – a cross was fizzed in by Wes Okoduwa and it was perfectly met by Edozie, who stabbed the ball home at the back post.
The visitors were very much still in the fixture however, as Jack Senga’s effort struck the post moments later as a reminder.
Dani Angel had an opportunity to give Wolves a cushion with 15 minutes left to play, but Tom Norcott denied his attempt well.
Senga was heavily involved in majority of Reading’s attacks; he looked set to score in the closing minutes, but Alfie Pond bravely put his body on the line to block the strike.
Despite consistent pressure from the visitors, Wolves were compact and persistent in their defensive task and kept a clean sheet against a tough opponent.
Full-time | Wolves 1-0 Reading
