Wolves 1 (Edozie 44) Manchester United 1 (Fletcher 51)
Wolves under-21s earned a deserved point against Manchester United in their final Premier League 2 game of the season on Monday night.
Tom Edozie’s set piece gave Wolves the advantage before Tyler Fletcher levelled the score in the second half and with either side unable to find a winner, the points were shared at Aggborough Stadium.
James Collins’ side looked to use their pace in attack to their advantage in the early exchanges, with Edozie having space to attack on the left-hand side.
Dani Angel looked to break the deadlock in the eighth minute, but his attempt was blocked over the bar as Wolves continued their search for an opener.
Angel was heavily involved once again on the 16th minute, as Leo Lopes’ teasing cross found the head of the Spanish forward, who forced Elyh Harrison into an athletic save.
The Old Gold had their patience tested throughout the first period; the visitors held possession of the ball for long amounts of time which made it hard for Wolves to find any joy going forward.
Justin Hubner was next in line to test United, he rose highest inside a packed out 18-yard box, but his headed effort was comfortable for Harrison to collect.
Edozie broke the deadlock moments before half-time with a spectacular free-kick 25-yards from goal, his curled effort was whipped with pace to give Wolves the lead.
Half-time | Wolves 1-0 Manchester United
Immediately after the restart, Josh Gracey pulled out a fine fingertip save to deny Chido Obi’s powerful strike.
Fletcher levelled the score with a neat finish into the bottom corner moments later.
Chances were few and far between for the hosts and Gracey continued to be reliable throughout the second half when tested.
When Wolves needed him most, the 17-year-old pulled out an unbelievable save to deny Amir Ibragimov in the closing stages of the game.
The point confirms Wolves’ place in the Premier League 2 play-offs, where they will now face a tie away from home.
