Man United 2-3 Wolves | Match Report

Man United 2 (Greenwood 31', Gomes 50') Wolves 3 (O'Connor OG 80', Ennis 88', Diallo 90+1')

Wolves completed an unbelievable comeback to all-but secure promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1 and being crowned champions.

The valiant Under 23s produced a stunning comeback in the final ten minutes as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away at Manchester United.

Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes looked to have secured the win for the hosts inside the first hour but an own goal and strikes from Niall Ennis and Sadou Diallo earned Wolves a miraculous victory in the north west.

Backed by over 350 travelling Wolves supporters, the visitors' defence were called into action early on as Tahith Chong did well down the right before firing a menacing ball across the face of goal which Max Kilman did brilliantly to scoop clear.

Neither side managed to created a clear chance until midway into the first half when Angel Gomes saw a long range effort drift inches past Andreas Sondergaard’s right hand post.

Wolves went close minutes later. Cameron John played in Ryan Giles who shot low at the goalkeeper only to see his effort saved by the onrushing Paul Woolston.

The hosts took the lead in the 30th minute as following from neat play, Angel Gomes found Mason Greenwood who finishing strongly beyond Sondergaard.

Sadou Diallo went close as Wolves looked to drag their way back into the came. He was picked out on the edge of the box by Pedro Goncalves before firing a left foot effort just past the post.

Wolves continued to pile on the pressure as Niall Ennis and Ryan Giles forced excellent saves from Woolston but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

United began the second half strongly as Aiden Barlow, Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood all went close to increasing their lead.

The hosts made their pressure count minutes later as when Maximilian Kilman was adjudged to have fouled Chong, Angel Gomes stepped up to dink the ball past Sondergaard and double their lead.

Kilman looked to make amends five minutes later as he carried the ball from the halfway line deep into the United box before seeing his effort well saved by the home ‘keeper.

Wolves showed great spirit as they pushed to pull themselves back into the game as after Pedro Goncalves crashed an effort off the post, Lee O'Connor turned into his own net to set up a grandstand finish.

Was the comeback on? Niall Ennis drew Wolves level with two minutes of normal time remaining with a rasping effort which clipped the underside of the cross bar and went in, and Wolves dared to dream.

The comeback was complete just two minutes later as Ennis played the ball to Sadou Diallo who calmly stroked the ball into the bottom corner to send the travelling Wolves supporters into pandemonium.

The win all-but secures the Premier League 2 Division 2 title for Wolves. Only a 12-goal win for Southampton against Sunderland on Monday evening will see Wolves have to settle for the play offs.
