Sophie Bramford believes Wolves Women are in for a positive season, after returning to the club and making her second debut on Wednesday.
The midfielder, whose return was announced before the victory over Stourbridge, came off the bench in the 3-0 win and is relishing being back in old gold, following positive conversations with head coach Dan McNamara.
Since last pulling on a Wolves shirt, Bramford has progressed her game at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City, and now returns ready to kick on and play regular first-team football in old gold.
On making her Wolves return
“Honestly, I’m delighted. It feels like it’s been a long time coming. I was young when I was here, 16 turning 17 at the start of the season, and I was looking for first-team experience really. The opportunity came to do a full-time programme, which for me was a good opportunity. I went to Villa and did a full-time programme there, mixing it with my studies.
“I went to university in Nottingham, so the ideal move was to Forest. It was good to go back into first-team football and geographically I had to work with that. Obviously, I always wanted to be a Wolves player, I loved it when I had my first spell here, so when I had the opportunity to come back, it was a no brainer really.”
Welcome back to the pack, Sophie.

On improving as a player elsewhere
“I feel like the full-time programme really helped me with my fitness, getting games under my belt really, and my spells at Forest and Stoke were me getting used to first-team football again, hitting the ground running. This season’s a really good opportunity to show what I’m about and kick on with a good team.”
On the move to Wolves coming about
“I was doing pre-season with Stoke and had a season there last year. I wasn’t enjoying it as much as I was the year before, there’d been a lot of changes and I didn’t feel like it was a club where I could really kick on and do what I wanted to do. I’ve known ‘Macca’ for a long time, and I had a few conversations with him, and he said he was delighted to bring me back in.”
On a winning debut against Stourbridge
“I loved every single minute of it. I was buzzing to get on the pitch and get playing with the team, getting to know the players on the pitch, as well as off it, so it was good. I can’t wait for the season. Obviously, there’s been a few good previous seasons, but I think this year is really looking positive.”
