Wolves Women manager Dan McNamara hailed an excellent first half display as his side cruised to victory over Huddersfield Town to make it back-to-back league wins.
The Old Gold did not have to wait long to see the first goal as Olivia Fergusson converted inside the opening 30 seconds, and McNamara said that he felt her first league goal was coming. Shan Turner came back into the fold after returning from international duty with Northern Ireland and Wales under-17 Ania Denham made her first appearance in Old Gold coming off the bench.
On his thoughts on the game
"I thought it was a game of two halves. I was a little bit disappointed in the second half. It is hard when a team just sit in. I think we registered one attempt on target in the second half.
"That shows the nature of the game and how the game went. It's often hard to break them down, so I wasn't disappointed with the fact we didn't score.
"We still created opportunities, which I feel we have got to turn into goals. The first half was excellent. It's a good response; it's what we wanted off the back of last week.
"The second half was a little bit deflated, which I know the girls will admit themselves, but overall it’s fantastic to get four goals and another clean sheet.
"I have said to the girls all along this season that we have got to keep chipping away and concentrate on what we're doing and getting three points on the board, and we have done that well today, so I am delighted."
On what he thought the difference was in the second half
"Sometimes it's hard when you reach those standards. We saw it against Fylde the week before last.
"When you reach those standards in the first half and play at such an intensity, then it's hard to replicate that in the second half, but as I have said, we have still created chances.
"Huddersfield, you could see they just didn't want the game to get away from them and didn't want it to go silly, so they sat in that low block, and I thought they defended really well.
"We still had moments of quality where we did create opportunities, so I think that was the disappointing part we were not clinical in those moments.
"But you know it's silly isn't it? We stand here at 4-0 at home off the back of a loss last week. I'm disappointed we haven't scored more, but it shows what type of standard the girls have set over the last few years.
"I will continue to try and drive those standards, and they [the players] will keep producing them."
On having four different goal scorers again
"Fantastic again. I think Dest [Destiney Toussaint] is in fine form at the minute; it was a fantastic finish from her.
"Ellie [Wilson] has got her goal today. I think Ellie's performance was bigger than just a goal. I thought she was fantastic today and deservedly picked up the Player of the Match award.
"I thought she was outstanding, and look, there's goals all over this team. There are goals coming from everywhere.
"Set pieces they’re looking dangerous this year, in free play we look really dangerous, and even in the first half, I thought we created three or four more where we will probably be disappointed that we haven't converted them, but as I have said, it is a clean sheet.
"It's a fantastic clean sheet. It is something we have tried to work on over the last few weeks, so that is two consecutive clean sheets in the league.
"That is back to the standards we want to get to out of possession and in possession. We have got to keep chipping away and working hard on the training field.
"I know Olivia Fergusson has been desperate for that first league goal, and funny enough, I said to her on Thursday,' I have got a feeling it is coming.'
"She has finished it fine after 30 seconds [into the game]. She likes scoring in the first minute at this ground, so hopefully that will continue!
"I am delighted overall. I thought the girls were fantastic. They applied themselves from training, especially in that first half, and now we look forward to another cup break next week."
On coming up against Sutton Coldfield in the Birmingham County Cup
"They are rightly in the National League now. They have earned their right to be in tier four, and we will have to take them as seriously as we take everybody else.
"The squad is looking a little bit thin at the minute we have got players that are out injured.
“Amber (Hughes), we are trying to work with her to get her back on the pitch as quickly as possible, which is always difficult after a fracture on her face.
“H (Helen Dermody) has picked up a little knock, which we are hoping is not going to be anything too serious, so hopefully, a couple more weeks and she will be back in the fold.
"We are working with Summer (Holmes) to try and get her back on the pitch as quick as we can, and there are a few others that have picked up little niggles today.
"It is making it tough, but it shows the character of the group filling round holes with square pegs at the minute.
"They have come through and performed, and we are asking different people to do different things, and we are working hard to try and get players back on the pitch.
"If we keep performing the way we are, then we are really pleased, and we have to do that again next week to make sure we progress in what is a defence of the County Cup."
