Wolves 4 (Wilson 45, Hughes 53, own goal 56, Denham 86) Boldmere St Michaels 0
Wolves Women cruised into the semi-final of the Birmingham Challenge Cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Boldmere St Michaels at Compton Park.
Goals from Ellie Wilson, Amber Hughes, Ania Denham, and an own goal secured a safe passage to the final four of the cup.
Boldmere failed to threaten on many occasions as the Old Gold made it back-to-back cup wins on consecutive weekends.
Beth Merrick came closest in the early exchanges with a long-range effort that dropped a couple of yards past Jodie Whiteman’s post.
Wilson neatly controlled Anna Morphet’s deep free-kick, but her deflected effort was saved comfortably by Whiteman.
Merrick Will provided an inch-perfect pass for Jade Cross who nodded towards the top corner but Whiteman produced a superb stop to keep it goalless.
Katie Johnson was then denied by a goal-saving block after she met Morphet’s corner as Wolves continued to pile on the pressure.
Wilson broke the deadlock just before the break as Merrick’s corner into the six-yard box was planted into the bottom corner by the head of Wilson.

Merrick exchanged a neat one-two with Tammi George before she fired an effort goalwards but Whiteman was able to save.
Hughes doubled Wolves’ lead on 53 minutes when she took aim on the edge of the penalty area and found the bottom corner.
Soon after, it became three as Cross’ low delivery was bundled into the net via a Boldmere boot.
Merrick danced around a couple of challenges before her effort fired a few yards over the crossbar.
Hughes could’ve made it four as substitute Liv Fergusson’s flick-on inside the penalty area found the impressive forward but her close-range effort was smothered by Whiteman.
Morphet’s fine set-piece delivery was in the spotlight again as she found Hughes but her header went narrowly over the crossbar.
Substitute Denham scored the goal of the game as she tapped home after Sophie Bramford’s inch-perfect cross six yards out following a flowing move.
It was almost five late on as Merrick cannoned an effort off the post but Wolves comfortably progressed into the semi-final of the Birmingham Challenge Cup.
