Charlotte Greengrass admits it didn’t take much persuading when deciding to make the switch to Wolves this summer.
The forward, who scored over 50 goals across the last four years at Nottingham Forest, became the Old Gold’s second summer signing following the arrival of Abi Loydon last week. Greengrass, still only 24, believes her productivity in front of goal coupled with her winning mentality and personality off the pitch will be the perfect match for Dan McNamara’s side, who she has previously faced on a number of occasions and knew that now was the right time to sign for the club.
On signing for Wolves
“I’m buzzing. I really just can’t wait to get started now and I’m feeling good for the season ahead.
“Timing wise, it just felt like the right time for me. Speaking to Macca, knowing the girls from playing against them and being in football for a few years, it just felt like the right place and I can’t wait to get going.”
On what she brings as a player
“I think goals and assists hopefully. I just want to bring a bit of my personality and hopefully a bit of experience.
“I’m still only 24 but I’ve been in and around the game, tier three and the Championship, for quite a few years now so hopefully that experience and knowing how to win and having that winning mentality. I want to bring that and a lot of passion as well.”
On her winning mentality
“I have that winning mentality and I love winning and hate losing, so that’s something I’m really keen to bring to Wolves.
“I think it’s a club that has done so well in the league already and I think just adding to that and hopefully going on to win some silverware this year.”
On playing against Wolves previously
“It’s always hard playing against Wolves and it’s something that brought me to the club ultimately.
“They’ve always been a really fierce competitor and we’ve always gone toe-to-toe with them in the league.
“That was ultimately something that brought me here and that mentality that they have here is ruthless and they always have been. I just want to add to that.”
On conversations with the manager
“I’ve known Macca in the league for quite a few years now and he sells himself that he’s a really passionate guy – that aligns exactly with how I foresee playing for Wolves and what I want from a club.
“He didn’t need to do much to persuade me to get here to be honest. I already knew what Wolves were all about and it was just that final conversation to get me through the door, and here I am.”
On the challenge ahead in the league
“I’m really excited. The league’s always been difficult, it’s always been difficult to get out of it and it’s always been difficult to win games.
“You can never take any opposition lightly, so I’m really excited to see what the league’s got this year. It’s always a different test every single year, so I’m really buzzing to get going.”
On what she wants to bring to the team this season
“Obviously goals – I want to contribute to the team as much as I can, whether that’s goals or assists.
“I know I bring a lot off the pitch as well and I’d like to think I’m quite a calming presence, a friendly face and someone who can help settle the girls in.
“My winning mentality and wanting to do well for the club. I’ll always play for the badge and I’m a really passionate player and always want to do well for the team.”
