Blues defender checks in to Wolves

Wolves Women have added Birmingham City defender Abbi Jenner to their ranks, with the youngster signing on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

Jenner, 19, has been at Blues since the age of eight and progressed through their RTC and Academy before making her first-team bow in a League Cup tie in December 2021.

In July 2023, Jenner signed her first professional contract with Blues, marking 10 years at the club with a two-year deal.

Jenner already has experience in Tier 3 having spent time with Stoke City last season, and scored two headers in Sunday’s 5-2 pre-season friendly victory at Cheltenham Town despite playing as a right centre back.

She becomes Dan McNamara’s third signing of the summer and the manager has expressed his thoughts on his latest acquisition: “Abbi’s someone we’ve known about and she went on loan last season. She fits that mould of what we want perfectly.

“She’s a young player looking to develop, looking to work hard and we want to play a part in her footballing journey.

“Vocally, she’s what we need in that backline. She covers the ground well, she can play, picks passes and can go up the other end of the pitch and score goals as well.

“Right from the moment she came in she’s been demanding of people around her which I love and you can see she’s a leader. She leads with her voice vocally, but she also leads with her performances as well.

“She knows when to do things right and when she can take a little bit of a risk. If we can add some certain elements to her game, then hopefully we can push her forward.”

Jenner’s arrival continues the trend of young footballers coming into the club this summer and McNamara is excited to play a part in the journey of another talent.

“We want to be a club that plays a part in these football journeys. We want to make sure we’re putting a good young squad together that stays together for three, four, five or six years.

“I said that six years ago when bringing Tammi George and Katie Johnson into the fold at really young ages, and look where they’re at within their journeys.

“It’s great to see these young players trust myself, the club and the staff to play a part in their journeys.”
