Denham | 'We're pushing each other for standards and quality'

Ania Denham was ‘buzzing’ to score her first league goal for Wolves Women on Sunday afternoon.

The youngster came off the bench to notch the fourth within minutes of entering the pitch, as the Old Gold started the season with a 4-0 victory over Stourbridge. Denham was on hand to slot home three minutes from time following Josie Smith’s run and cross down the right, and the young attacker has spoken on starting the season with three points, netting her first league goal and her ambition for more first-team minutes in the coming games.

On starting with a win

“It's good to be honest. Obviously it’s good to start off the season with three points and some goals too - personally for me, but also for the team.

“I think we should have been more clinical. I think we were building up really well, getting into the box, and then it’s just about the final product. If we showed a bit more quality, it could have been a lot more goals.”

On scoring her first league goal for Wolves

“I’m buzzing, to be honest. Obviously, it's more important to get the three points, but I'm happy that I got the goal to try and help the team as much as I can.

“When I'm given the opportunity, I need to take it really so, it's good start.”

On the options in the squad

“We've got so much quality in the team, on the pitch and those on the bench too.

“We're fighting for our spot, but we're helping each other. It's a healthy competition in the team, and we're just pushing each other for standards and quality.”

On hoping for more opportunities

“I think that's what I'm working on. I still have to be patient, keep working hard and, like today, just take the opportunity as they come. I trust Macca, so that's good.”

On spending time on loan and with Wales

“They build up my confidence. I needed game time with Khalsa, and I got it there. It built up my confidence, built up my experience.

“I went away with Wales a few times and it was good to get a lot of football there too.”

On games coming up

“We have to take each game as we can, think about the three points, put in the performance, and then just build as each game comes.

“They're going to come quite quick and fast. We’ll just work hard in training and then hopefully perform and win games as they come.”
