Dan McNamara wants his players to focus on getting a result, rather than the occasion, when Wolves Women travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Sunday.
Despite looking forward to testing themselves at the Clarets’ main stadium, the manager wants business as usual when it comes to fighting for all three points and says the team have trained well this week following last weekend’s disappointing result against Nottingham Forest. McNamara can call upon the services of captain Anna Morphet who is free of suspension, and the Old Gold boss has given further squad updates ahead of Sunday’s clash.
On another tough test
“It’s another one of the toughest games in the league. It’s not ideal on the back of our performance last weekend, but we see it as an opportunity to put things right on a prestigious ground and we’re really looking forward to the occasion.
“We’ve trained well this week and have learnt from our mistakes. We’re looking to put in a great performance that the fans, families and everybody at the football club can be proud of. If we do that, then we’ll give ourselves a great chance of getting a result.”
On how the squad is shaping up
“It’s fantastic to welcome Beth Merrick and Destiney Toussaint back into the fold. They’ve had a full week of training which is key to getting them back up to speed.
“We’ve got a couple of niggles ourselves and obviously Abi Loydon is also missing through suspension, however we welcome back Anna Morphet, the club captain, which is great.”
On the occasion at Turf Moor
“We’re excited and we’re looking forward to the day. We don’t just want it to be an occasion of playing at Turf Moor, we want to go and win – there are points to fight for.
“We’ve had a good start to the season and after this week, I’d say we’ve probably played two of the strongest teams within the league and we can then settle into what we need to do and understand the task we’ve got ahead if we want to be competing with those kind of teams.
“It will be a pleasure to manage a team at such a fantastic ground and hopefully the fans will follow and we can hear them being loud and proud as they were last weekend.”
