Hughes | 'It’s huge to get the three points'

Amber Hughes was delighted with the way Wolves Women bounced back with a ‘huge’ victory on the road at Burnley.

Dan McNamara’s side responded from a disappointing defeat against Nottingham Forest in superb fashion on Sunday when an Amber Hughes header in the first half allowed Wolves to take all three points back with them from Turf Moor. After the game, the striker spoke about the importance of the result, her current form and how the team will prepare to face Hull City next weekend.

On getting three important points

It’s huge to get the three points but, ultimately, we needed to bounce back from our performance last weekend, no one was happy with that performance.

“We worked hard this week, so we are glad we have turned it around, today was about the performance and to get the win is brilliant.”

On scoring her third of the season

I didn’t know too much about the goal, but I know Morph (Anna Morphet) is going to put the ball in there and I am glad I could get that early goal for us.”

On getting three goals in three appearances

I’m looking to score as many goals this season as I did in the previous season, I'm glad that I've hit the ground running.

“I’ll be looking to add as many goals as I can.”

On her adaptation in the game

I was slightly deeper to help us out defensively, but I’ve been working in training to get my head around it.

“I thought it was effective and did stop them playing, which allowed us to control the game and play our football which was really good to see.”

On preparing for Hull City

We’ll do the same preparation as we do every week, today was a good performance but there are things that we can work on.

“Hull will provide a completely different test, but we won’t get ahead of ourselves.

“We still need to work hard, train hard and hopefully get the result next weekend.”
