Darlington | 'The most important thing is getting the job done'

Wolves Women secured their place in the next round of the FAWNL Plate competition after a 3-0 victory against AFC Fylde at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground on Sunday.

Beth Merrick scored a brace with both of her efforts reaching the top corner and Abi Loydon got her first Wolves goal with a strike from distance.

Wolves Women coach Josh Darlington took on the responsibility of talking to the media after the victory and spoke on getting through to the next round, rotating the team and facing Rugby Borough next week.

On getting through to the next round

It wasn’t our most fluent performance, I think the players will be the first to say that.

“They hold themselves at high standards, but the most important thing is getting the job done and getting through to the next round of the cup.

“We had some good moments, it’s a good opportunity for younger players to get minutes within the squad.”

On a rotated squad

The players are chomping at the bit to get into the starting eleven, training is always competitive and these girls deserve their opportunity.

“It was really good to see so many of them get minutes today and at the end of a three-game week, it’s really important we rotate and rest players where we need to.”

On facing Rugby Borough in the league

“I think we’ll prepare exactly how we always do, we’ll give Rugby Borough massive respect.

“We obviously played them in the County Cup final last year, they are a great side so we will prepare as we always do.

“We’ll watch and analyse them and put together our game plan and get ready for Sunday.”
