Morphet | 'It’s a big step in the right direction'

Anna Morphet believes that signing a contract with Wolves Women is a big step towards achieving her long-term goals.

The Old Gold skipper is one of three players to have been rewarded with a contract – a first in Wolves Women history. Katie Johnson and Tammi George have also put pen to paper, and Morphet says that it is a special moment to pledge her future to Wolves alongside two of her closest friends. The defender joined the club back in 2018 when she was a teenager and is now closing in on the 150-appearance mark, as she strives to continue to drive the team forward and closer to their end goal.

On putting pen to paper

“It’s a really proud moment. I've been at the club for a few years now and to see the journey that it's been on, from when I joined to where we’re at now, I'm very proud to be involved and to be offered these kind of opportunities at the club, so it’s a really special moment.

“To see when we started at Aldersley dome, to moving to Compton, the move into Telford, and have such a professional set-up now with full-time staff and the facilities that we get access to, it's been an incredible journey and we’re very lucky to have kind of that set-up at this club.”

On signing alongside Katie Johnson and Tammi George

“They're two of my closest mates in the team and I know how much Wolves means to them as well. To do it alongside them makes it a bit more special and I shared a lot of the journey and the memories with those two. I'm really lucky to be alongside them.”

On what this means for Wolves Women

“Hopefully it’s a big step in the right direction towards a professional set-up and outlook. The long-term goal is to keep building towards competing at a higher level, and this is a big step towards it, in terms of what our longer term goals are.”

On her aims for the future

“Hopefully we’re competing in the Championship. It’s been a decent start to the season and this season we've really stepped up our training, our preparation and all those kind of things.

“Hopefully it can bode well into giving us a good end to the season. If not, we're looking at a few years ahead and we really want to be competing at Championship level for certain.”
