Dan McNamara was thrilled with Wolves Women’s phenomenal performance against West Brom Women as his side won 8-0 against their local rivals at The Hawthorns.
Following a sensational afternoon for the Old Gold that included four goals for Charlotte Greengrass, manager McNamara expressed his delight after a ruthless display in front of goal to claim the bragging rights once again.
On the Black Country derby victory
“A memory, a great memory that the group will hold onto for a long time.
“Coming into this, the pressure builds with this run and record that everyone keeps talking about and I’m trying to park it, but it didn’t affect them today. I thought they were phenomenal from the first whistle.
“We knew what Albion would do, they probably would have taken a draw before the game. We knew we had to be patient and eventually the quality would shine through and once that first one went in, it was ruthless - everything I expect from a really hungry Wolves side that are striving to go in a great direction and really trying to achieve something unbelievable.
“A huge memory and the fans again were outstanding here, but to come here and win back-to-back games and do it in that manner is absolutely outstanding.”
On the squad togetherness
“People will often talk about my celebrations. Football is a short career whether you’re playing or a manger, you might be out of a job in four weeks with bad results.
“I enjoy every moment I can with the girls, that’s me and how I am, and being passionate about what we’re doing. I’ll always celebrate them – it doesn’t matter who we’re playing, I want to share a great moment with great people.
“This whole group is full of fantastic people, whether that’s the staff or people at the top, or the players. Good things happen to good people and if we keep working hard, we have to see where this journey takes us because they’re fantastic, the whole group is fantastic, and after the summer they had they deserve to enjoy these moments.”
On performances of individual players
“Abbi Jenner has been phenomenal week-on-week for most of the season, what an addition she was in the summer. Charlotte (Greengrass), we have spoken about at length over the last few weeks, I’m just delighted she’s started to get the goals.
“Jade (Cross), we talk about good people, her and her sister Emma are everything this club are built around. I know they’re disappointed, it pains me when we put the team out and they’re not involved but they’re the levels we are getting to now.
“I asked the subs to make an impact on the game, and for her to come on and get her moment, to score at the Hawthorns as a lifelong Wolves Women fan, it was probably the proudest and best goal of them all. She deserves that and she will enjoy that for a long time.”
