Asfordby Amateurs 1 (Poyzer 35) Wolves 7 (George 7, 36, 51, Quigley 20, 53, Merrick 39, Loydon 90)
Wolves Women advanced into the second round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup following a ruthless display against Asfordby Amateurs on Sunday.
Tammi George scored a hat-trick, while Racheal Quigley (2), Beth Merrick and Abi Loydon were also on the scoresheet for the Old Gold in the East Midlands.
Dan McNamara made six changes from last weekend’s emphatic victory against Halifax, with youngster Amelia Hiscox and Quigley both making their first starts for the club.
The latter came close to opening the scoring within the first minute, hitting the woodwork after Anna Morphet’s cross found the head of the Australian.
Quigley was denied by the woodwork twice within the opening 15 minutes and stung the palms of Leah Ramford on several occasions.
George scored the first goal of the afternoon in the eighth minute after Katie Johnson advanced on the right-hand side and found the midfielder inside the area, who finished into the top corner.
The Old Gold continued to show their dominance and were two-nil up inside the opening 20 minutes in the East Midlands.
After hitting the woodwork twice previously, Quigley headed in her third goal from her last two appearances. Morphet’s cross was perfect for the striker to head down into the bottom corner and Wolves were in cruise control.
The hosts reduced the deficit in the 10 minutes before half-time through an audacious effort from Jade Poyzer, with her long-range free-kick finding the roof of Bec Thomas’ net.
Wolves restored their two-goal advantage instantly from kick-off, as Morphet’s cross found the head of George who was free inside the area, and she made no mistake to head home her second of the afternoon.
The Old Gold had a fourth just three minutes later, as Merrick picked up on a loose ball inside the area and her curled effort found the top left corner which put Wolves at ease.
Wolves showed no signs of slowing down when Quigley hit the crossbar once more before the break.
Half-time | Asfordby Amateurs 1-4 Wolves Women
After the interval, George secured her hat trick in the 51st minute after advancing inside the area before slotting the ball home from an acute angle.
Two minutes later, Quigley scored her second goal in similar fashion to her first, as Merrick’s dipped cross found Quigley at the back post who nodded in Wolves’ fifth.
McNamara’s side continued to threaten the Asfordby goal and forced Ramford into the action with efforts from Loydon, Quigley and Layla Banaras.
Wolves were thriving and Loydon was next in line to add to the scoresheet, as her close-range finish was the final goal of the afternoon for the Old Gold who sealed their place in the second round.
