Amber Hughes praised her side’s professional performance against Sporting Khalsa that helped progress Wolves Women into the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Dan McNamara’s side were 8-1 winners over Khalsa in a clinical display that saw eight goals scored by six different scorers. Hughes described her team’s performance as professional, as well as looking ahead to the third round with confidence and detailing Wolves’ hopes for the competition going forward.
On the game
“I thought it was a real professional performance and really nice to get lots of goals with different goal scorers.
“It was a shame to concede the one because we pride ourselves on clean sheets but, ultimately, we got the job done and put ourselves into the hat for the next round.”
On the competition
“I feel like any competition or league that you’re in you want to go as far as you can and that will be our goal, we’ll see who we get tomorrow, it’ll be interesting but ultimately, we want to go as far as we can.
“If we get a big team or a team in the league above then we’ll rise to the challenge and have a good go to go as far as we can.”
On her two goals
“I’m always happy to get on the scoresheet, ultimately it’s about the team and winning, but for myself personally I’m just happy to keep that goal scoring run going.”
On the variety of goal scorers
“It’s good to know goals are coming from anywhere on the pitch and we’re not relying on one or two people for goals.
“I think the passages of play today were really good, we work hard in training, we take the information on, and we saw that on the pitch today.”
On facing Derby next week
“I think it’ll be a tough test but well get in on Tuesday and do the hard work this week and we’ll be ready.
“We all know how important this game is going into Christmas, so we’ll make sure we’re ready but we know what challenge it will bring.”
