Dan McNamara labelled the performance against Hull City Ladies the worst of the season as his side played their part in a six-goal thriller.
Wolves Women drew 3-3 away to the Tigresses at the Easy Buy Stadium on Sunday, in an afternoon which proved costly to their title hopes. Destiney Toussaint and Abbi Jenner were both on the scoresheet, but the three goals from the home side meant the points were shared. McNamara touched on the performance, the outcome of the result and what’s next for him and his team.
On the performance
“No, not frustrated, I'm not frustrated with a point. I think we're lucky to get out with a point to be honest. I think that's probably the worst performance of our season.
“I don't want to take anything away from Hull though, I thought they were really good value and I thought they wanted it more than we did in a competitive game where the title was on the line and relegation was - they wanted to stay up more than we wanted to win the game for our three points.
“I thought we were really lucky to get away with one at the end to keep it at three-all.”
On the outcome
“Really disappointed but that does probably draw a close to this year's title, with Forest winning today that's probably them home and dry. It is tough at the minute and tough to put into words, I'm an emotive person, but the girls have been fantastic all year.
“It's these kinds of games that we have to start learning how to win, if you want to win league titles, you need to do what a Forest would do, nick it one or two nil.
“We made it difficult, we tried to play on a difficult surface, we didn't win our battles or compete like we needed to do, we didn't show enough bravery or composure in the box, but it's a disappointing one and one to forget quite quickly.”
On what’s next
“The disappointment of being out of the title race, but second place in the league would be an unbelievable achievement for this group, it would probably be up there with the best I’ve had since being here.
“From what we're up against it would be incredible so we have to focus on that now and make sure we are hungry to finish second and really push Forest for the rest of the season.
“We've got Burnley and Albion to come and we've got to be ready to fight for it. It brings Stoke into it as well now to show they are ready to take on a title challenge next year.
“But now we have to show more courage and bravery than we did today. I'll take some of that on the chin with how we set them up but I can only do so much and when they go out on the pitch they have to fight and want to win and compete like Tammi George. I thought she was a standout, showed desire and a real determination to win the game, but too many didn't, which is why we ultimately leave here with one point not three.”
