Women's report | Halifax 1-6 Wolves

Halifax 1 (Chadwick 49) Wolves 6 (Greengrass 2, 20, 28, Merrick 15, Hughes 45+1, Quigley 81)

Charlotte Greengrass’ first half hat-trick contributed to Wolves Women’s 6-1 victory over Halifax Women on Sunday afternoon.

Dan McNamara made one change from his side that triumphed over Burnley last weekend as Katie Johnson returned to the starting eleven in place of Josie Smith.

Wolves started lively as an early goal from Greengrass set the girls in front in just the second minute of the game. An assist from Beth Merrick allowed Greengrass to flick the ball in the bottom right corner past Lucy Farrell.

Halifax were trying to fix their mistake and managed to push through and have an attempt at goal, however they were denied as Bec Thomas secured the ball tightly.

Just over 10 minutes after the first goal of the game, Merrick took aim from outside of the area and smashed the ball into the top corner of the goal straight past Lucy Farrell to make it two.

The third goal of the game came five minutes after Merrick’s goal. Anna Morphet passed a great low ball through to Greengrass, who tricked Farrell making her jump too early, enabling her to chip the ball and score her second.

The Old Gold are flourishing, only 20 minutes into the game with three goals scored. The girls continue to dominate as Amber Hughes attempted a shot at goal from distance that was deflected for a Wolves corner.

Just eight minutes later, Greengrass completed her hat-trick as she tapped the ball into the bottom left corner from a few yards away.

Not long after the fourth goal of the game was scored, Halifax had an opportunity as Charlie Chadwick was one on one with Thomas, but the home side were denied as Thomas scooped up the ball calmly and safely.

A fifth goal was brewing within the squad as Hughes had a powerful shot on target, but Farrell made a great save tipping it wide for a Wolves corner. Morphet crossed the ball into Anderson who took a shot, but Farrell made another great save spilling it over the bar.

The fifth goal came in the first minute of stoppage time as Morphet crossed the ball in from a corner to find Hughes’ head at the back post.

Half-time | Halifax 0-5 Wolves

Halifax come out wanting to try and fix their errors from the first half and four minutes into the second half a miscommunication allowed Chadwick to have a shot at an open goal and get one back for the home side.

There was a chance in the 57th minute to score a sixth goal for the Old Gold and for Morphet and Hughes to mimic the fifth goal as the skipper crossed the ball in to Hughes’ head but the ball drifted just over the crossbar.

20 minutes of normal time remained, and George won a free-kick in a dangerous place on the pitch. Morphet wanted it, but she struck the ball straight to Farrell.

The final goal of the game came from substitute Racheal Quigley, who scored with her first touch after coming on as she had a shot from close range and sent the ball straight past Farrell.

After a dominant performance in clinical fashion, Wolves wrapped up the last away game of the season with a comfortable 6-1 victory leaving them with just one league game left of the season against Liverpool Feds at home.
