Hee Chan Hwang
Hee Chan Hwang has spent the past three campaigns at Molineux and his first under Gary O’Neil was the most successful of the lot.
Signed in August 2022 on loan – a move which was made permanent within five months – Hwang has shown his finishing ability while at Molineux, as well as versatility across the front line.
The South Korean international burst onto the scene at RB Salzburg, where he impressed with his goals and assists in the Champions League alongside Erling Haaland and moved to Molineux fresh from helping Leipzig to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga.
The Leipzig move was reward for Hwang’s form at RB Salzburg, where he shone on the top European stage during 2019/20. It was 16 goals and 22 assists that season which saw Leipzig swoop for the attacker.
At Wolves, the South Korean scored on his debut at Watford – one of five he’d hit in a debut season in English football, before adding a further four the following season.
Following O’Neil’s arrival, Hwang helped set up a dangerous frontline alongside Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha, with his winner against Manchester City one of the campaign’s high points.
The South Korean finished the campaign on 13 goals, one being leading scorer Cunha on 14, and in December 2023 he signed a new contract until 2028.

A big player in his nation, Hee Chan Hwang has played more than 60 times for South Korean and featured at four major international tournaments.
Having featured at the 2016 Olympics, Hwang scored his first senior South Korea goal in March 2018 against Poland and went on to represent his country at the World Cup in Russia later that year.
The World Cup four years later saw Hwang scored a memorable stoppage time winner against Portugal to send South Korea into the last 16 and at the next Asia Cup he helped his country to the semi-finals, where they were beaten by Jordan.
Hee Chan Hwang is hoping 2025 will be an improved year not only for Wolves but also for himself after he ended 2024 with two goals from two to help his team continue their unbeaten run under Vitor Pereira.

Hee Chan Hwang stepped up his recovery from injury this week by joining in with training as he returned to the squad ahead of the visit of Southampton to Molineux.

Head coach Gary O’Neil confirmed Hee Chan Hwang’s absence will not be “overly long” after he returned from international duty injured recently.
