Strand Larsen | 'We're not afraid of anyone now'

In-form striker Jorgen Strand Larsen says he would not be enjoying this momentum in front of goal without his teammates.

The Norwegian notched his fifth goal in four matches as the Old Gold saw off Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux on Sunday, having benefitted from the great industry of Rayan Ait-Nouri, who provided the assist for his goal.

The previous week it was Pablo Sarabia providing for the big number nine, who is finding the suitable touches in front of goal, as did Matheus Cunha on his return from suspension against Spurs, and Strand Larsen also piled praise on his attacking colleague post-match.

On celebrating at the end

“Obviously, a great atmosphere. It's difficult holding on that, because we haven't done it the whole season, but the last three games have been massive for us. Spurs haven’t had the greatest season, but they’re still a very strong team with amazing players. So, to build on that and win again, it's unbelievable. I'm really proud of the whole club and the whole team.

“Every song goes amazing in the crowd. Vitor has made a point there, we're always focused on the game first. I'm the same, I want to come in and score goals every time, and then after that we see what happens. I'm just pleased they sing my name, and hopefully it can continue like that.”

On being able to do more

“There’s been a few very important games lately, and it's nice to be playing a big part. Maybe I had an off day today, but to still grab a goal, I think that's the most important, the team needs that. We created a good spirit again at home, showing what we can do. I'm just proud of the team.

“Obviously, I work hard and give my all, but I feel like I missed something. That's how it goes for a striker. You need to have a good feeling. But the most important thing for me is having chances and to be in the right position when something happens, and I'm pleased to be scoring, pleased to be in the momentum I am right now, and I would never be without my teammates. Obviously Rayan does well for the assist, he had a great game, and I think many of the other players did, even though I felt like I was not where I should be.”

On the feeling of an in-form striker

“It changes everything. Confidence in football is the most important thing, and in a relegation battle it’s not easy to find that confidence, especially as strikers. You don't get many chances as a team, you concede and you feel like, ‘Oh, here we go again’. That's what it's been like this season. But I felt since Vitor came in and the whole staff, we have changed some small things, because it's not about doing something huge. I think with time we've we built on that. Where we are now is a great spot, and we're not going to stop. We're not afraid of anyone now, we obviously know where we still are, we're not going to win the league, but we can build on this next season.”

On Cunha joining him in the goals

“I'm so happy for him. I was the first guy to run to the pitch, even though I was tired, because he deserves the best. Coming back, you see in the celebration, it means a lot to him. It's not easy being him. He's been the best player this season, and I'm just really proud of him coming back and scoring a goal.

“We had to play a few games without Matheus, which is difficult, because he gives so much to the team. We've done well without him so obviously he understands that we need to keep on going with the same team. You can see he comes in and he makes it difficult. He scores a goal, he works hard. He wants to show that he's back and I think that's amazing. He's such a good guy, such a good such a good player, and I think if he can keep his head in the right place, he's going to score as many as goal as he wants in the Premier League. It’s great to have him back and the rest of us have to continue working hard to try to hold that the starting position.

“Without him this season I would never be where I am, and I'm just grateful to be playing alongside him. We have other players that are amazing too. So, we cannot forget that, we are a good team at the moment, and we've created a good spirit. The gaffer and the whole team need a lot of a lot of credit.”
